New Single
"Heart Is On Fire"
Calgary’s Miesha & The Spanks’ new full-length album “Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi” raises the high bar set by their 2021 Singles EP while celebrating the super-duo’s debut on Mint Records. Flaunting their affection for the wild roots of '70s and '80s rock, these ambassadors of badassery serve up a tableau of après-garage ringers that would bring The Runaways themselves charging back home.
Synchronized in their collaboration, Louie and Hamilton weave an audio spell that flows across genres – embracing elements of R&B, blues, folk and country mores. The latter being most evident on the blazing sh*tkicker “Heart Is On Fire,” as Hamilton’s renowned footwork ignites a barnburner guaranteed to set your denim-tuxedo ablaze.
“You’re always young when you’re doing what you love, when you’re nervous and excited and bubbling over, and you feel like your heart is on fire. That burning feeling inside that tells you you’re in the best moment of your life,” explains Miesha. “For me it was in the early stages of writing this album when the pieces started coming together, my boys just started daycare, and I finally had time to just play guitar in the garage and write music again.”
Mixed-Secwépemc artist and new mother of twins, singer/guitarist Miesha Louie’s distinctive voice and perspectives bleed through every riff and rebellious utterance. Her Mother’s Tongue backlash is echoed by drummer Sean Hamilton’s tattooed tempos. Clever lyrical turns and edgy guitar attacks are the perfect tools for manipulating the system, and social attitudes, with a brazen dose of addictive vibration.
Released in April this year, “Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi” has already brought Miesha & The Spanks across Canada, into the US, and overseas to the UK, Germany, and Poland. Singles have charted in the top 10 of the Indigenous Music Countdown, CBC Radio 3, SXM The Verge’s Breaking Alt Countdown, NACC Canada, as well as cracking top 50 on the Mediabase Top 100 Alternative. Miesha & The Spanks were enlisted by Apple Music to record one of their Home Sessions, featuring a stripped-down cover of The Stooges “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and a raucous, foot-stomping, hand-clapping, Pouzza Fest inspired version of you guessed it - “Heart Is On Fire” - available exclusively on Apple Music.
