"Alone in Paradise"
BETABOYS is a Calgary-based band composed of five long-standing contributors to the city’s music community. The band was formed in 2016 with the aim of celebrating 1980’s new wave and synth pop music. The best of this music fosters a message of diversity, inclusion, and hope for a better world. BETABOYS is passionate about channeling and honoring this music, which still carries an important message today. Since releasing their first EP, “So Shy”, in May 2021, BETABOYS have been fortunate to receive steady college radio play across North America, a song placement in a professional snowboarding movie, and high-profile showcase slots at Sled Island, JUNOfest, Big Winter Classic, Winterruption, East Town Get Down, and the X 92.9 "One Night Only" concert series. BETABOYS released their second EP, “Just Yesterday”, in June 2023, and garnered their first extended radio play in the United States. The band finished their first full-length album, “Great Pretenders”, with internationally-acclaimed producer Russell Broom (Jann Arden, Kue Varo, Art Bergmann), in February 2025, with a release slated for December 6, 2025. The album’s first single, “Alone in Paradise”, has been featured on the popular “32 Thoughts” hockey podcast, received regular radio airplay across Alberta, and most recently appeared on Billboard Canada’s “Modern Rock” chart. Although the band members have other major music projects on the go, the positive results over a short period of time have caused everyone to turn their attention, enthusiasm, and focus to BETABOYS.
