Adrian Sutherland comes from the isolated Cree community of Attawapiskat on the James Bay in remote Northern Ontario.

He is a singer, songwriter, and frontman for roots-rock band Midnight Shine, making contemporary music that gives a glimpse of life in Canada’s North, while reflecting universal themes like family, home, love and loss. Adrian is a knowledge and language keeper of the Mushkegowuk Cree, teaches traditional ways of the land, participates in harvests, leads ceremonies, and is a genuine example of someone who lives authentically. He is a respected leader and insightful advocate for the many challenges facing his community of Attawapiskat and other First Nations in Canada, like contaminated water, housing shortages, and the ongoing tragedy of youth suicide. Adrian is father of four, grandfather of four, and hardworking husband, proud of who he is and where he comes from.
