"The Muse"
Formed in early 2022, The Young Scones have quickly established themselves as a standout presence in Toronto’s vibrant and eclectic music scene. Known for their bold rock ‘n’ roll sound and electrifying live performances, the band delivers high-energy sets that leave a lasting impression. Their music, characterized by gritty riffs and anthemic choruses, draws inspiration from iconic acts such as The Beatles, The Clash, The Pixies, T. Rex, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Jack White, and Arctic Monkeys, among others.
The band is a tight-knit unit of four friends: Gary McGuinness (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Brian Derro (Bass/Vox), Zac Lennon (Lead Guitar/Vox), and Marcelo Maltez (Drums). Their chemistry and shared musical vision have been key to shaping their dynamic sound.
In August 2023, The Young Scones released their debut single, "The Son", a high-octane anthem that has been hailed as a "rock explosion." Its bold message—“Well, you’ve got a brain, but why don’t you use it, Son?”—captures the band’s fearless energy and lyrical wit. In October 2023, they followed up with "Feelin' the Hype", a raucous track described as a "nuclear bombardment" of fuzzy guitar and searing vocals—often the perfect closer for their live shows.
The band’s debut LP, Guerrilla Tapes, was released in collaboration with Toronto-based Little Depth Records. The album showcases their raw, high-energy style and marks the beginning of an exciting journey.
In 2024, The Young Scones have continued to make their mark with regular gigs across Toronto and beyond. They’ve played a variety of notable venues in the city, including The Dakota Tavern, The Cameron House, and the legendary Horseshoe Tavern, as well as major local festivals such as Do West Fest and OssFest 2024. To date, they’ve released a trio of singles—"Bone", "Hole In My Pocket", and "The Muse", all of which are part of their eagerly awaited sophomore album, Sconism, set for release in early 2025. Sconism promises to build on the momentum of Guerrilla Tapes, offering a diverse and eclectic collection of tracks that reflect the band’s evolution as both musicians and collaborators.
